Manchester United beat Everton 2-1 at Old Trafford to move to eighth in the Premier League standings.

Jose Mourinho’s side saw Frenchmen Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial score, before Everton pulled one back. But credit to United for holding on and sealing three points.

Pogba was instrumental in United’s win, but also the culprit for the goal conceded after losing possession.

Meanwhile, at Sky Sports, in their match programme, television pundit Graeme Souness was seen surprisingly praising the star midfielder. The former Liverpool man has always been known as someone who has been overly critical of the France international.

He has always repeatedly launched scathing attacks on the former Juventus man, having also recently suggested that Pogba “only plays for himself,” and that he “treats football as a bit of a joke.”

On Sunday, Souness was present at the match programme for the clash between United and Everton, where he surprisingly had a sudden change of heart for the 25-year-old, shocking his fellow pundits in the process.

— José (@MourinhoMindset) October 28, 2018

Souness stated: “Pogba’s been really good. I think he’s moved the ball quickly, he’s been uncomplicated, he made the pass to Martial to get the penalty. He’s been really good today – if he could do that week-in, week-out, then we’d be talking about him as a proper player.”

The pundit also felt that the penalty earned by United was a wrong call by the referee, as he added: “That’s not a penalty. I played a long time, that’s never a penalty. I don’t care (if an ex referee says it’s a penalty). I played the game.”

VIDEO: All Of Romelu Lukaku’s Disastrous Moments So Far This Season

Reuters/Jason Cairnduff

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku was expected to do all the big things since his arrival at Old Trafford last season. But after a decent 2017-18 campaign, the Belgian has fallen flat this term.

He looks low on confidence, which has affected his game a lot. Goals haven’t been coming from the forward, and he is nowhere near to the level he is expected to be.

United do not have a fall-back option, and that’s where the problem arises. Lukaku is still given a solid run of games by Jose Mourinho, but his performances are the question. Now, the scenario is pretty alarming.

Against Juventus earlier this week, Lukaku was way below-par. His attempt to find Anthony Martial far on the left was a disaster of a long pass, and it caught the attention of several critics.

RELATED:

What Man United Fans Are Saying About Lindelof’s Performance vs Juventus

And it didn’t end there, as the Belgian was ridiculed for his underwhelming performance – which included numerous embarrassing moments.

Lukaku’s form shows that he isn’t on the same level as that of Harry Kane or Sergio Aguero. You need strikers as such to win titles, and Lukaku, for all that money, is a serious let down.

Right from the first game of the ongoing season, Lukaku has been really poor. Here are all the moments of his disastrous campaign summed up. Have a look:

Despite this consistent failure to convert chances, manager Jose Mourinho, when asked to give his thoughts on Lukaku, gave the following reply: “No criticism at all. But I have to agree his moment is not sweet.”

It remains to be seen if and when Lukaku can successfully turn things around.

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has revealed that the senior figures were responsible for maintaining the harmony within the dressing room at all times under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Red Devils are have endured a tough start to the season, with Jose Mourinho’s tactics have fallen short against several opposing teams. United were on the verge of beating Chelsea this weekend, but late substitutions cost them, and they had to settle for a draw.

The atmosphere in the dressing room is one of Mourinho’s major concerns. The Portuguese’s strong criticism of his players’ performances is said to be turning his squad against him. Paul Pogba has faced the most of it, and is said to be leading the charge to get him sacked before December.

It is difficult to imagine such things happening if Sir Alex Ferguson was still in charge at Old Trafford. In fact, in a recent interview, Wayne Rooney has revealed that the Scot hardly dealt with dressing room politics, as senior players would squash such conspiracies themselves.

RELATED:

WATCH: What Happened When Rooney And Ronaldo Met For The First Time

“That would never be allowed to happen,” Rooney revealed. “The likes of Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand, myself – players who had Manchester United in them and wanted the best for that club – would never allow anyone to mess that up.

“We controlled the dressing room ourselves. Alex Ferguson didn’t really need to control that. The players had the trust of the manager to do that themselves.”

Michael Carrick, who was the last of the senior players to play under Mourinho, retired last season. The former Tottenham midfielder joined Mourinho’s coaching staff, but hasn’t been helpful in solving the internal matters of the squad.

Manchester United will have a tough decision to make at the end of the season. Jose Mourinho could get sacked if he fails to secure Champions League football, but who will take charge of the Red Devils then

Manchester United are preparing a huge contract for Lucas Hernandez to lure him out of Atletico Madrid.

The Red Devils had a tough transfer window this summer. Jose Mourinho was in desperate need of a central defender, but club executives weren’t ready to open their pockets to bring in the likes of Harry Maguire, Toby Alderweireld or Jerome Boateng.

The United defence has been terrible this season, conceding 14 goals across 8 games in the Premier League. David De Gea has managed to hold onto just one clean sheet, as the partnership in central defence keeps changing in front of him.

The Glazers and Ed Woodward aren’t ready to part ways with Jose Mourinho yet, and have decided to give him everything to turn around Manchester United‘s season. The Portuguese boss is looking to make some amends to his squad once the transfer window opens in January.

WATCH: Why United Should Not Sack Mourinho

According to Marca, the Mancunians are ready to offer a mega contract to Atletico’s Lucas Hernandez. The French full-back was one of the star players in Russia over the summer, helping his national side secure their 2nd World Cup title.

Spanish outlet claims that United have agreed to double his current wages if he chooses to make the move to Old Trafford this winter. The report adds that the 22-year-old is keen to head to England, which will effectively end his 11-year association with Los Rojiblancos.

Mourinho Wants United Board To Prove They Back Him By Signing These TWO Players

Manchester City and Real Madrid are also said to be interested in the versatile defender, who can also play as a centre-back when needed.

Atletico added a £70m release clause in his contract to fend off interest from top clubs across Europe, which could possibly be a huge hurdle for Mourinho, as United officials had refused to pay a similar amount for Toby Alderweireld during the summer.

Zidane On Stand-By, Manchester United Playing Cautious?

BlameFootball
Zidane On Stand-By, Manchester United Playing Cautious?

Reuters/Carl Recine

Manchester United may be playing with fire. The side had a mixed weekend, as 10 minutes into their Old Trafford game against Newcastle United already looked like a familiar picture – another loss against a team in the relegation zone.

While they did manage to engineer a comeback for the highlight reels, a 3-2 scoreline gleaming at full-time, the bigger woes are still out there.

At the heart of this worry is the future of Jose Mourinho, with reports going into the fixture stating that he would be sacked this weekend.

While those claims have been since refuted by the Mancunian giants, the latest speculation doesn’t bode well for the Portuguese tactician either.

RELATED:

What Man United Fans Are Saying About Pogba After Newcastle Match

As per an exclusive by Mirror, Manchester United have put Zinedine Zidane on standby, expressly asking him not to take any other job, as the Frenchman is United’s no.1 choice to replace Mourinho in the event of a sacking.

If this sounds familiar, then memory has served you right, as this was the exact scenario that had played out resulting in Mourinho getting the top post at Old Trafford.

RELATED:

Career Of Man Utd Star Is OVER Under Mourinho, Claims Rio Ferdinand

Then gaffer Louis van Gaal was putting in mixed results despite spending heavy, and the FA Cup wasn’t enough to save the Dutchman, as he was sacked and Mourinho duly took over. In that case, the club-less gaffer was expressly told not to take on any commitment.

It is clear that results like the ones on Saturday are the reason why Mourinho hasn’t been axed already. The board seems eager to wait the season out before making their choice, and may not wish to lose out on the services of Zidane.

However, things may not play out all too well for them either, as the Frenchman, fresh off a consecutive three-year Champions League haul at Real Madrid, having willingly left his job, is not exactly the same as Mourinho, who was then sacked by Chelsea following a pathetic title defense.

Not Giving In: Paul Pogba Tells His Teammates He Won’t Back Down

Reuters/Matthew Childs

Paul Pogba vs Jose Mourinho is currently, without doubt, the most talked-about controversy in football at present. The player and manager have both gone public with their criticism of one another, and things seem to be getting uglier with each passing day.

The French midfielder claimed that United should be playing attacking football all the time, and indirectly blamed Mourinho for the same not happening. In return, the manager vowed to never make the player his team captain ever again.

As per the recent reports by Mirror, the battle is very likely to go on for a long while, as the World Cup winner has told his teammates he will not be giving in any time soon.

The Manchester United talisman has attracted the attention of the worldwide media, and he intends to use this platform to tilt the argument in this favour.

However, if things do not go to whatever plan he has in mind and the conflict still remains, Pogba then wouldn’t hesitate to secure a departure from the Theatre of Dreams.

Teams like Barcelona, along with some other big boys, look eager to snatch the big man, and with Mino Raiola being the agent, a high profile move is always around the corner.

Manchester United are currently enduring a horrendous run of form, and Mourinho’s job looks in more danger than ever. Zinedine Zidane is rumoured to be holding talks with the club, and as of now, it is Pogba who is winning the debate.

The fans are worried, many divided on whom to support, but change is definitely needed, and it is needed now.
