Catalan heavyweights Barcelona are doing what many would not have expected this season, sitting at the top of the La Liga table with an eight-point lead over rivals Real Madrid, whilst also looking formidable in the Champions League.

With Neymar Jr departing last summer, Barcelona signed Ousmane Dembele as his replacement, but failed to fill the midfield void by signing only an out-of-favour Paulinho. Surprisingly, the Brazilian is now a fan favourite at Camp Nou, while the French forward continues to recover from his injury.

Ernesto Valverde is well aware that the big games are approaching, and they need to recruit some major reinforcements in January to stand a chance in the latter stages of the competitions.

Therefore, Barcelona have been doing some smart scouting, and their representatives were in attendance to watch Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen in action last month, with Jonathan Tah, Julian Brandt, and Leon Bailey all being of interest for the La Liga giants.

Furthermore, according to Spanish outlet Don Balon, a few Barcelona scouts were also present at Stamford Bridge last Sunday, in order to keep tabs on Marcus Rashford and Eric Bailly.

Revealed: The First Player Mourinho Will Sell As Soon As January Window Opens

Rashford, 20, has been a huge hit at United ever since he made his debut in February 2016. The England international has scored seven times already this season in whatever game-time he has been allotted by his Portuguese manager.

On the other hand, Ivorian defender Eric Bailly, who is always calm and composed in front of his goal, is being dubbed as an ideal replacement for veteran Javier Mascherano and Thomas Vermaelen when they leave Barca at the end of the current season.

As per reports, Barcelona chief Robert Fernandez himself travelled with scout Urbano Ortega to watch the Red Devils’ star men in action, and Jose Mourinho might soon witness an offer or two coming his players’ way from the Camp Nou outfit.
